I saw the "big blue mat" on the Flawless Fondant DVD from the Sugar Shack and wanted to give it a try on a smaller scale. I was able to cover an 8 inch cake about 6 inches tall so easily with this mat and using her technique! Before I bought this, I was struggling getting the fondant on the cakes smoothly and without frustration. It convinced me to purchase the larger mat for when I am working on cakes that are 12 inches or wider.

I bought this mat because my daughter wanted me to make her a fondant cake for her 5th birthday. I've never made any kind of cake before but I knew I needed a clean, smooth surface to work on. After reading reviews for several potential mats, I decided on this one and I definitely recommend this product: not too big, not too small, it fits perfectly on our countertop and has plenty of space to roll out my fondant. As far as it sticking to the mat, it took a little confectioners' sugar and a lot of practice (I had to remember to lift & rotate the fondant) to make it come off the mat cleanly. But after 3 cakes now, I think I'm getting the hang of it and I can't imagine working without the mat. It's easy to clean and just roll and store for next time. I'd love to try kneading bread dough on it as well.

Bought this for kneading and proofing bread. Works great. Takes a very little bit of flour to prevent sticking. Is everything it says it is. I haven't tried it yet with fondont, but I expect it will work well for that too.
