The only reason this is a 2-star vs. a 1-star rating is that the silicon mat worked out well for me as a first-time macaron maker. It cleaned up easily, and the pre-marked circles made it really easy to create uniform shells.However, the piping tool almost makes it a waste of money. Macaron batter is much too thick to go through the piping tip as shown in the picture, and I ended up with a huge mess and had to scrap much of my first attempt at making macarons. Because the tips are detachable, they just kinda blopped off of the tool when I tried to squeeze batter out, and even more batter starting to ooze out of the cap. Having an all-silicon tool sounds nice in terms of clean up, but it's actually really impractical because nothing wants to click or stick together and you end up with a huge mess in your workspace. But I used a standard pastry bag and was able to avoid future disasters.I didn't try this, because I didn't want to waste any more ingredients, but I would also think that the piping tool included in this set would also be faulty for use of icing, ganache, and any other filling you'd want to use for your macarons. If I were you, I'd skip this product and buy only a mat from some other vendor!

The mat eliminates me from using wax paper, then drawing the circles to make a pattern. This is perfect for beginners too!
